Sensei Sarah Haubenstricker

Assistant Instructor

My name is Sarah Haubenstricker and I have been training at Petaluma Karate Club for about six years and continuing. I am a Shodan, first degree black belt. As an instructor trainee, so far I’ve been teaching for a year. Over the years of training as a student, karate has helped me gain confidence, when I started I was shy, timid and couldn’t bring myself to talk to people or look them in the eye. Karate has brought a positive turn to my life and I am grateful to be a better version of myself today. I’ve always enjoyed working with children. I’m very passionate to do my best to help them grow in the art and in themselves. As a student and instructor, I am still learning. While training, I come across obstacles that involve having to remind myself that I shouldn’t weigh myself for mistakes and keep going.

I live by the first Dojo Kun, Seek Perfection of Character, because I am constantly trying to find ways to improve myself even though I know it can be sometimes discouraging. In karate and in life, we are continuing to find ways to push ourselves to get better. The things I find that I need to improve with are the same things I see while I teach. I hope to help Sensei Karen encourage a fun and better learning environment for everyone. Karate has taught me that learning is a journey, that “when you lose your way, you get back up again” and trusting yourself is important and valuable.
